What the service is

IPA Transcriber is a free web tool that suggests broad, dictionary-reference IPA for English text and lets you review, edit, copy, download and print the result. It needs no account and has no paid features.

No guarantee of correctness

Transcripts are generated from pronunciation dictionaries and your own choices. They can be incomplete or wrong, words with several pronunciations need your choice, and some words are not covered. A transcript marked “Choices completed” has nothing left to choose; it has not been checked by an expert. Check a transcript before you rely on it.

Your text and your files

Your text is processed in your browser and is not sent to this site. You keep all rights in your text and in the transcripts and files you make; using the tool grants no licence in them to the operator. Project files you save stay on your device.

Third-party pronunciation data

The pronunciation data and the IPA font come from third parties under their own licences, listed on thedata sources page. Their attribution travels with every transcript you copy, download or print. If you reuse the pronunciation data itself, follow those licences.

Acceptable use

Do not use the site in a way that disrupts it for others, such as automated mass requests, or to break the law.
