Scope and limits
- What you get. Broad, dictionary-reference IPA for one named system, word by word. Words with more than one dictionary pronunciation show the first one listed, marked with a dashed underline so you can switch any occurrence.
- Not chosen from context. The tool does not read the sentence to decide between, say, “read” /rid/ and /rɛd/; check the underlined words.
- Not in the dictionary. Such words are marked ⟦word?⟧ for your own IPA. Numbers, abbreviations and web addresses are kept as written, not spelled out.
- Text, not speech. It does not record or analyse your voice, and it does not claim that a transcript was checked by an expert.
- Private. The pronunciation data is downloaded to your browser and your text is transcribed there; it is not uploaded or stored.
